c.1950 Celle Italian Racing Bike with double Bottle Cage
Little is known about the 'Celle' bicycle brand, one of the many small bicycle makers that were scattered across Italy at the time. But from the notes that are with the bicycle, Celle (Celle Ligure) is a town not far from Savona in Northern Italy, an area said to have been the heart of the early days of racing cycle manufacture. It is also believed that the Olmo brothers (another Italian bike frame manufacturer) were in business in the town during the post war period. So whether the Celle frame was made by Olmo or a relative? further research is needed! The bike comes with some letters of research along with photos of of the frame.
The frame and forks are in original paintwork, but is faded and worn showing many years of age. The remains of the transfers are worn too, to the point some only show the outline of where once a transfer was. But the bike is original and has charm. The wheels are 27" alloy rims with large flange Italian hubs which look to be FB manufacture, but the logo is worn and fit to the frame with butterfly wing-nuts.
The brake callipers are Italian Universal on the front and Balila on the rear with matched Universal brake levers. (missing there rubber hoods) The handlebars are 16 inch wide (C-C) and made of aluminium and the the stem is made by AVA. Saddle is a Brooks B17 and the pump is also an english made - Brittanialloy.
Cranks are branded with the 'Celle' marque.
The double alloy bottle cage with bottles and corks is a rare item and they compliment the bike nicely.
