Vintage Sporting Cheltenham Pedersen Bicycle
Vintage Sporting Cheltenham Pedersen Bicycle
We currently have two of these unusual bicycles for sale. Built in the 1970's/80's by Individual Bicycles of Cheltenham - England using the Danish bicycle designer - Mikael Pedersen's original design for a lightweight bicycle with a hammock dating back to the late 1890's. Pedersen is said to have got the original idea from the Whipple Murphy bridge construction where strength and lightness were key to its design.
It appears to be difficult to date these bikes. The frame number is: 121085 and is stamped clearly under the bottom bracket. This obviously might look like a date code. However most the parts fitted are earlier, so will leave it up to the buyer to do more research. The bike has not be used for a few of years and will require a good service and overhaul.
Both this bike the other example are build mainly with 10 speed Shimano 600 parts, but also include Weinmann Brakes and Normandy Hubs, MKS pedals. Wheels are 27 inch Aluminium rimmed and fitted with good Continental Super-Sport tyres.
Sizing is also difficult to judge because of the hammock, however, the proprietor has ridden both the bikes around Goodwood Motor Circuit and has a 30" inside leg and it fitted well.
For sale to someone with time and imagination, who could really make this bike there own and there is lots of them being ridden by owners who have customised them with interesting parts like wooden mudguards and coloured tyres etc.
A small collection of spare parts is also supplied with this bike.
